The four-day long third ‘Foodpro Bangladesh’ fair witnesses huge gathering of local and foreigners at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC). The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm everyday.
Exhibitors passed a busy day as thousands of visitors thronged the stalls of the international food fair. They received huge response from the visitors, who showed interests in all types of food items.
According to the organizer, the government has arranged sufficient security measures in the fair because of foreign stalls. The fair is jointly organized by Bangladesh Agro- Processors Association (BAPA) and European Union’s Bangladesh Inspired Project and Extreme Exhibition and Event Solutions.
Some 230 stalls of 130 enterprises from India, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Germany, Singapore, Japan, The Netherlands, Turkey, Malaysia and Indonesia are taking part in the fair.
The participants are exhibiting food items such as biscuits, bread, sweetmeat, cake, jam, pickle, pastry, snacks, fried lentil, nuts, chips, ketchup, chanachur, fruit juice, milk products, mineral water and soft drinks. Some exhibitors are also displaying food processing machinery and equipment.
“Today (Friday) is the government holiday and for this reason, we received a tremendous response so far from the people and most of them bought at least one item,” said a busy exhibitor.
Nurjahan Islam, a housewife from Mirpur, said that she bought biscuits, jelly, cake and chanachur from different stalls. “I wanted to buy more food items, but I came out of the fair ground as it was overcrowded,” she added.
The third ‘Foodpro Bangladesh’ fair began on Wednesday. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the fair as chief guest while state minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam was present as special guest.
Addressing the ceremony, the minister said, the incumbent government has given importance on agro-based industries. As part of this movement, the industries ministry has been encouraging to produce nutrition-rich food to the local entrepreneurs. The fair ends today.
