Flower cultivation brings solvency among poor farmers in Bogura

With the assistance of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) flower cultivation has brought solvency and happiness among the extreme poor farmers in Bogura in the current season.
Due to repainted bumper production and fair market price, the farming is expanding across the region from the last few years. The farmers are also being self-reliant with the farms.
Meanwhile, the traders of the district are producing different sort of flower sapling to export in the all districts with the vehicle smoothly. They are getting good profit from the business as it is cultivated as commercially in the region.
Local growers said a vast area of sadar, Shajahanpur and Shibgonj upazilas has been brought under flower cultivation in the current season aiming financially self-reliant spending huge money across the area.
Farmers in the district produce flowers of different varieties worth Tk. 100 millions in a year. After seeing steady growth in flower farming, farmers of the district are cultivating flowers and they are mostly dependent on it for their livelihood.
Proprietor of Bhai Bhai flowers nursery Samsul Islam said this year the farmers of the district were happy with the bumper production of flowers before two weeks back but rough weather ruined their happiness as most of the flower petals have started to fall and the trees started to rot.
A flower trader Kamrul Hossain said flowers worth Tk 0.3 to 0.5 million are traded at Gokul and Mohasthan wholesale market every day.
Sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman said we are monitoring the flowers orchard round the clock as they farmers could grow quality flower. They are exporting the flower across the country including Dhaka mitigating local demand, he added.
Deputy Director of DAE horticulture centre Bonany Bogura Md Abdur Rahim said we are providing technical support among the interested farmers to make the farming a grand success round the clock.
