Flood situation worsens in Ctg, new areas inundated

Chittagong Bureau :The flood situation in the rural areas of the district turns servere following the incessant torrential rain for the last five days . Though the rainfall speed lessened than earlier on Saturday but downing of hilly flow water and flash flood , the situation in the rural areas of the district turns deplorable. District administration sources said 10 villages of Chandanaish upazila flooded with hill flown flash flood water leave thousand of people marooned in their houses. Chittagong District administration sources said following the abnormal flow of water in Sangha river with the lower stream of hill flown water, the banks of the river submerged cause the surrounding areas gone under water. In the meantime district authority sanctioned 50tons rice and Tk.8 lakh for flood affected people of Chandanaish, Satkania, Banshkahli and Raozan upazila. Source said Banskahli, Satkania, Chandanaish and Raozan were badly affected with flash flood water. Beside these 4upazilas, low lying parts of other 8 upazilas inundated , sources said.Following the flash flood water, houses, roads, seasonal crops, shrimp hatcheries, poulty and dairy firms also badly affected during the five days torrential rains . Road transport authority sources said the communications inCtg-Bandarban road still remain suspended till writing this report and the traffic movement in Ctg-Coxsbaazar highway party resumed yesterday . Different partsof the highway in Satkania, chandanaish, Lohagara, inundated for the last few days and hence traffic movement partly resumed by breaking gap. CMP commissioner visits waterlogged areas in cityCommissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Abdul Jalil Mondol visited the waterlogged areas in the city on Friday to witness the sufferings of city dwellers. He goes round the Agrabad Bepari para upto Barapol area under Halishahar thana in the morning. He was a ccompanied by the senior officials of CMP, sources said. During his visit , he enquired the reasons of waterlogging and assures cooperation to their sufferings. He opined due to insufficient drainage and sewerage systems, the situation arises. He sort out the reasons of waterlogging mainly on fillig of drains and canals inside the city and assured the dwellers to clean up the drains by the intitiatives of cMP. Among others, additional police commissioner AKM Shahidur Rahman, Deputypolice commissioner Faruk, DCP (Port) Harunur rashid Hazari, DCP(traffic) sujayet Islam, Addl.DCP Arefin Jewel, ACP Mahmuda Begum,ACP Traffic Anowar hossain, ACP Asif Mohiuddin, and Officer incharge of Halishahar thana accompanied the CM P commissioner during his visit, a CMP release said.
