Although the flood situation is improving in northern districts, it remained unchanged in north-eastern parts of the country, particularly in Sunamganj and Netrakona districts, on Thursday.
The flood situation in the two districts may improve today (Friday), as water level in all major rivers, including the Ganges, the Surma and the Kushiyara, are in the falling trend, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, Duty Officer of the FFWC, told The New Nation that the flood situation will bee improving in the coming days. He, however, said that a severe flood may hit a large part of the country in next July or the first week of August due to heavy rainfalls.
The flood situation in Sunamganj and Netrokona remained unchanged in several upazilas of the districts due to incessant rains and onrush of hilly water from the upstream. The flood-hit people are passing their days in miseries, as dwelling houses of many people were damaged and road communications collapsed in several areas.
The flood victims of these areas are facing acute crisis of dry food, pure drinking
water and medicines. It is apprehended that the outbreak of different waterborne diseases might hit the flood-affected areas when the flood water would start receding.
In Bogra, road communication between Dhunat upazila and Sariakandi upazila is still snapped. The flood control embankment on the Jamuna River collapsed on June 12. The embankment was not repaired till Thursday. The people are facing suffering due to the collapsed embankment.
Engineer of Water Development Board (WDB) in Bogra said that the repair work of the embankment would start on Friday (today).
