Flood situation may worsen

Flood situation in low-lying areas of the country’s six districts is likely to deteriorate within the next two days, said Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).
The water level in the river Padma may cross the danger level. It was stated in a report on the rainfall and river situation summary sent by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the BWDB early Sunday (August 15) afternoon.
The summary signed by Md. Arifuzzaman Bhuyan, Executive Engineer of the FFWC of BWDB, said all the major rivers of the country are on rising trend, which may continue in next 48 hours. In the next 24 hours, the FFWC said that the flood situation in the Teesta basin incluing the adjoining areas may remain steady.
The flood situation in the low-lying areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts may deteriorate in the next 24 hours.
On the other hand, the FFWC said the Padma River may cross danger level at Goalundo point within the next 48 hours.
In the next 24 hours, the flood situation of the low-lying areas in Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur and Chandpur districts may deteriorate.
