Flamengo have not ruled out the prospect of signing veteran defender Dani Alves, who is without a club after parting ways with Sao Paulo.
Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim confirmed reports the reigning Brazilian top flight champions are considering a move for the 38-year-old, but stopped short of saying whether an offer had been made.
“I had the opportunity to meet him in 2019. He has a very impressive professional profile. He is a winner. No team in the world would not be interested in a player like Daniel Alves,” Landim told Brazil’s TV Record.
Alves ended his two-year association with Sao Paulo last week over a dispute over late salary payments.
He is still a regular member of Brazil’s national team and has made no secret of his desire to take part in next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
The right-back is widely recognized as the most decorated player in history, having won 43 trophies with Bahia, Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, Sao Paulo and Brazil.
Flamengo have already bolstered their squad in the past month by signing former Brazil defender David Luiz and securing a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira.
The reigning Brazilian Serie A champions are currently third in the 20-team top-flight standings, eight points behind leaders Atletico Mineiro but with two games in hand.
