A Chittagong court on Wednesday sent five RMG factory officials to jail in a case filed for importing tobacco worth Tk 7.20 crore by providing false information that they were importing RMG materials.
They are Mujibur Rahman, managing director of Genetic Fashion Ltd in Savar’s Ashulia, and the factory’s directors Ahmedul Arash, Reaz Hossain Khan, Tohiduzzaman and Wahid Islam.
Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Shahenur passed the order after rejecting their bail petition, said Public Prosecutor Fakhruddin Chowdhury.
On March 1 this year, customs officials found the tobacco in a container consigned to the factory, and the following day a case was filed with Bandar police in this connection.
