Gang rape in moving bus: Five put on remand

A court here on Tuesday placed five people, arrested in connection with the gang rape of a female garment worker in a moving bus in Dhamrai on Dhaka-Aricha Highway early Monday, on a three-day remand.
Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order when Md Zakaria, inspector of Dhamrai Police Station produced them before the court with seven-day remand prayer. Those who remanded are-Md Sohel Rana, of Gawail village in Dhamrai, Makbul Hossain, of Kelia village of the same upazila, Babu Mollik, a bus driver of
Kotpara village in Chuadanga upazila, Abdul Aziz, of Deokhola village in Phulbari of Mymensingh, Balram, son of Mohalal of Dimran village in Nilphamari.
Earlier, on Monday, police arrested the five people from Kachmach area on Dhaka-Aricha highway. Officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station Md Rizaul Haque said on Sunday night the victim got into a bus from Islampur area and all its passengers got down when it reached Kalampur bus stand area.
Then five staff of the bus, including its driver and his assistant, locked the gate and violated the girl one after another, he said. After hearing scream of the victim, locals informed police. Later, police chased the bus and rescued her from Kochmoch area of Dhamrai upazila, he added. Police also arrested five people from the spot.
