Five persons, including two children, were killed and a housewife was injured by lightning amid inclement weather in Rangpur and Gaibandha districts yesterday, police and local sources said.
In Rangpur, four persons, including two children, were killed and a housewife was injured in two separate incidents of lightning at different places in Kawnia and Pirgachha upazila.
Of them, Monir Uddin, 55, son of Gias Uddin and Shakil Ahmed, 16, son of Abdus Sabur of village Gopal under Kawnia
upazila were killed and Khaleda Begum, 45, wife of Moniruzzaman was injured after thunderbolt struck them while fishing in their pond. Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kawnia Thana Abdul Kader Zilani said that the bodies were handed over to their relatives. Bijoy Chandra Barman, 10, son of Badal Chandra Barman and Dilip Kumar, 11, son of Sunil Chandra Barman of village Bihari Khorkhorirhat under Pirgachha upazila were killed by lightning while playing on their homesteads at 12 noon.
OC of Pirgachha Thana Aminul Islam has confirmed the incident. Besides, youth Shariful Islam, 27, son of Abdus Samad of village Noondaho Somoshppara under Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha was killed by lightning while working in his crop field yesterday noon. Chairman of local Taluk Kanupur union parishad Atikur Rahman has confirmed the incident.
