Five illegal gas connections were snapped in five new residential buildings on Bishnudi Madrasa Road in the district town recently.
On getting specific complaints, a drive was taken jointly by Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Ltd. Cumilla, Chandpur and Anti-Corruption Commission Office, Cumilla.
Earlier, locals lodged specific complaints in this connection with Anti-Corruption Commission Office, Cumilla alleging that Islami Bank, Chandpur’s Officer Md Omar Faruque and four other gas consumers of four other new buildings on this area had long been making use of gas through illegal connections in their residences.
Anti-Corruption Commission’s officials, along with Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Ltd. ,Cumilla,’s General Manager Kishore Kumar, Deputy General Manager Mohammad Helaluddin, Chandpur Region’s Manager Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Manager Md Zahid Hossain, and Assistant Technical Officer Kazi Anwar Hossain came to the spot, identified the illegal gas connections in these new residential buildings and then challenged the owners of the gas connections regarding the validity of their using gas.
The owners failed to show the team any valid papers regarding gas. Even, their gas bill books were found to be ‘false’ as they were not supplied officially from Gas Distribution Office, Chandpur. These false Bill books were seized too. Hence all the five gas connections in these five new buildings were snapped. Even the gas connection risers of these new buildings were found illegal too as installing risers of gas connections are officially stopped for long.
