Five persons were arrested by customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday afternoon.They were carrying a total of 86 gold bars in their possession, weighing 10 kg. The detainees are-Abdul Halim, Belal Uddin, Sazzad, Alam and Anwar.
Joint Commissioner of Airport Customs, Kazi Mohammad Ziauddin told The New Nation, the smugglers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a Biman flight from Dubai around 2:30 pm.
On getting information, a team of customs officials quizzed the five detainees as they were crossing the boarding bridge of the airport. After searching their bodies, the customs officials recovered 86 gold bars from their possession.
