A female primary school teacher at Kuakata jumped from a Dhaka bound water transport to river but was rescued by fishermen on early Sunday.
Harunor Rashid, Supervisor of triple-deck MV Sundarbon-10 cruising on Barishal-Dhaka route , acknowledging the facts said the victim around 30-year old was on board at deck of the first floor of the vessel with her mother and maternal aunt on Saturday night.
At about 10:00 PM after altercation over family issues the victim becoming sentimental running to the backside of the launch jumped into the river.
The launch crews stopping the transport searched surrounding areas for more than an hour.
Failing to trace the victim, requesting the local fishermen over loud speaker for more searching, the launch continued journey towards destination, the launch supervisor said.
Then at about 12:00 AM it was informed that local fishermen succeeded to rescue the victim and bringing her on shore handed over to local Charmonai union parishad.
As the family members travelling with the victim on board of the water transport informing other family members denied to go back for receiving the victim, we continued our journey, the launch staff added.
Manowar Hossain Jewel, member of Charmonai UP, said the rescued victim after giving first-aid treatment sheltered under their custody informing UP chairman and police for taking further action.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer in charge of Sadar river police station, said family members of the victim informed to receive the rescued victim.
