Fishermen in distress owing to intrusion of Indian trawlers

Fishermen of Bangladesh are panic stricken owing to intrusion of Indian fishing trawlers in Bangladesh territorial water, it is learnt from Dubla fishermen group and Bagerhat KB fish landing centre. Allegation of intrusion and fishing by hundreds of fishing trawlers in the deep Bay from Dimondharhabour, Basanti, Sombosh, Kakdanga, Shankarpur and other river ports belonging to the West Bengal in India.
A fish trader named Farid Ahmend disclosed, Indian trawlers being bigger in size and fast in speed, they behave recklessly. They have been fishing day after day near Fair buoy and buoy No.1 near at Heron point by driving out the fishing boats of Bamngladesi fishermen and looting fish unhindered.
Fishermen of Dubla dry fish village engaged in collection of dry fish during the winter are subjected to persecution very often by Indian fishermen in the deep sea. In doing so, the Indian fishermen intrude in Bangladesh territory along with snatching of fish nets and collected fish along with foods and every day-needs. Consequently, Bangladeshi fishermen are to flee for fear of their lives while they find Indian trawlers. Even, they held Bangladeshi fishermen along with fishing boats in order to seize and hand over them to Indian coastal authority. As a result, those unfortunate fishermen are to pass their days as captives in different jails of West Bengal for months together in uncertainty and their money lenders as well as their relatives have to spend huge amount of money for their releases. In many cases they have to suffer their confinements years together.
It is gathered from Khalil, Abu Sadek and Sarwar of the fishing trawler FB. Ma-Ganga that Indian trawlers are found very often in the deep sea near Kuakata, Gangamoti, Payra near intersection of Ramabad, opposite to Ramna river intersection. It is also leant from different fish traders who alleged reckless movements of Indian trawlers are going on as it was disclosed by the fishermen returning from the sea. They used different varieties of fishing nets including ‘Bendi Jaal’ (one kind of fishing nets) so that even tiny fish cannot escape netting as a result of which elimination of different fish species are being expedited. Shanur Rahman Shamim, Organizing Secretary of Dubla Fishermen Group, disclosed, they (Indian fishermen) have been looting fish stock belonging to Bangladesh territorial water by (Indian) modern fishing boats for years together. They owing to their superior apparatus can easily identify fish available points of Bangladesh water as they are bigger in size and equipped with radar VHF wireless through which they can catch fish by their phonic nets. A few Indian trawlers are often held by Bangladesh Coastguards and Bangladesh Navy from time to time. The diplomatic endeavors of concerned authority enabling the captive fishermen to return to their own country are very frequent. But they are again revisit Bangladedsh territorial water through intrusion desperately in order to catch fish resources of Bangladesh.
