The short supply of all kinds of fish in the capital’s fish market is responsible for upward trend of fish price creating more pressure on the city residents.
However, they feel relief after visiting vegetables’ market. Almost all kinds of vegetables are being sold at reasonable price as winter products are frequently entering the city.
After visiting the few fish market it was seen that there are shortage of fish in the market.
The Rohit and Carp fish are being sold at Tk 260-370, walking fish at Tk 550-620, Telapia and Pangas at Tk 180-200.
Besides, a one and half kilogram Hilsa is being sold at Tk 1,300-1400 per kg while small size at Tk 900-1100 and shrimp at Tk 750-850.
Kaptan Bazar fish trader Sonatan Das said that the supply of fish had fallen making high price in the market. Few days ago all types of fish were available at wholesale market. A banker who was walking at fish market trying to buy fish said, I feel puzzle that two days ago which was Tk 250-270 is now Tk 300-320. It is hard to think any meal without fish, but it is also difficult to buy for high price.
The price of broiler chicken decreased in the capital’s kitchen markets by Tk 5-10 per kilo, selling at Tk 145-155 compared with Tk 150 to 160 per kilo.
Contrarily, the price of Sonali chicken (popularly known as Pakistani Cock) increased selling at Tk 265-275 whereas two days ago it was Tk 250-260. Layer chicken price, however, remained stable with Tk 220-230 per kilo..
On the other hand, the price of onion is selling by Tk 50-60 (based on quality),
The price of egg remained stable with Tk 100-105 (per dozen). The price of vegetables in the market is showing lower trend as winter vegetables started to enter the market. The price of new potato has decreased by Tk 10 and is being sold at Tk 40 whereas last week it was Tk 50. On the other hand, the price of old potato has increased by Tk five is being sold at Tk 30.
After visiting the vegetable market it was seen that old bean is being sold at Tk 30-40 while fresh or new one at Tk 60-80. Carrot is being sold by decreased price of Tk 40 to 60 per kilo, the price of ripe tomato still remains high and is being sold at Tk 100-120.
The French is being sold at Tk 50-70, Cauliflower at Tk 30-40 and Cabbage at Tk 30-40.
Karwan Bazar business trader Md Nur Alam said the supply of winter vegetables in the market is constantly increasing. New tomatoe has appeared. Our idea is that in a few days the prices of all kinds of vegetables will go down further.
