UNB, Dhaka :
The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), investigating the cocaine haul at Hazrat Shahjalal International
Airport, is still in dark about the source and final destination of the consignment as the arrested Spanish national did not provide any information in this connection during primary interrogation.
It has also decided to interrogate him through interpretation as he cannot speak English well.
DNC officials arrested Spanish citizen Chiases Tjo Julian, 52, along with around 3.08 kg of cocaine at the airport on December 8.
DNC Inspector (Uttara circle) Qumarul Islam filed a case with Airport Police Station on December 9 in this connection. DNC Inspector Raju Ahmed (Lalbagh circle) was made the investigation officer (IO) of the case.
Contacted, the IO said the detained Spanish citizen cannot speak English well. “For the sake of interrogation, I’ve requested my supervising officer to permit me to hire an interpretation,” he said.
He also hoped that the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka will place Julian on remand for interrogation on Monday. Earlier on December 9, he sought a 10-day remand for the Spanish national in connection with the cocaine haul.
Claiming that he came to Bangladesh for touring the country, detained Julian repeatedly said he could not understand how the consignment was put inside his luggage.
Julian came to Bangladesh via Dubai from Sao Paulo of Brazil by an Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai around 4:55 pm on December 8. Later, the DNC officials seized 3.08 kg of cocaine from inside a packet in his luggage.
