Fish remains dear

The price of fish showed no sign of relief despite adequate supply in the kitchen market at the weekend on Friday. The wholesalers, however, blamed increasing demand for fish as reason of high price.
Scorpion and barbal were selling at Tk 600 to Tk800, lobster and prawn Tk700 to Tk 1000, ruhit Tk 280 to 450, carp Tk 230 to Tk 400, pangas Tk 170 to 200, tilapia Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola Tk 250, climbing fish (Koi) Tk 250 to 600, lata Tk 200 to Tk 300, Tatkini Tk 230 to Tk 250, Sheat fish (Boal) Tk 300 to Tk 500, fry fish Tk 250, Butter fish Tk 800 to Tk 1,100. Marcel (one kind of sea fish) Tk 250 to 270, Surma fish Tk280 to 340 and Mackerel Tk 250 to 300 only. The price of dry fishes was also raised by about Tk 30 to 50 per kg.
Besides, at Karwan Bazar fish market on Friday, a big size (1.3 kg) of hilsha (river shad) was found selling for Tk 2000 per piece while a middle size (700gm) for Tk 600 and small size (400gm) for Tk 300.
The egg (Chicken) was selling at Tk34 per hali (4 pieces) while egg (duck) at Tk38 to Tk40.
The beef and the red meat were selling at Tk 290 to Tk330 and Tk 450 to Tk550 respectively. The price of local chickens increased by Tk30 to Tk50 per piece. A medium size of local chicken was selling at Tk 350 while a big one at Tk 500-650 on Friday. The boiler chickens’ price stands for Tk 175 per kg.
Of the vegetables, bean was selling at Tk80 per kg, brinjal at Tk 40 to Tk50, tomato at Tk120, bitter gourd was selling at Tk 30 to Tk40, cucumber Tk 30 to 40, okra Tk 40 to 45, papaya Tk 20, carrot Tk 70, snake gourd Tk 40, french Tk 50, radish Tk 25, cauliflower Tk15 to 25 per piece, cabbage Tk 30 to 50 per piece, parbal Tk30 to 40 per kg, teasel gourd Tk40 to 45, pumpkin (medium size) Tk 50 to 60 per piece, gourd Tk50 to 60, ash gourd Tk35 to 40, coriander leaves Tk 250 per kg, green chilli Tk70 to 90, capsicum (red) Tk550 kg and capsicum (green) Tk300 to 450.
Nazishail brand was selling at Tk55. As for other brands of rice, coarse rice was selling between Tk 33 to 34, Pyjam at Tk 35, Kataribhogh at Tk 75 and Minicate at Tk 52-54.
Imported garlic was selling at Tk 80 and local one at Tk 70. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 190, local produce at Tk 180 only, local onion at Tk 40, imported onion (India) at Tk 38 and lentil at Tk 110.Five litres Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 560 and Teer brand at Tk 555. Sugar was sold at Tk48 per kg on Friday.
