Fish fry farming gaining popularity in Panchagarh

Fish fry farming is gaining popularity among the farmers of Debiganj upazila of the district.
Several hundred farmers of Sonahar, Debiduba and its adjoining villages in the area become self-reliant through this initiative.
Farmers in Panchagarh are using their own pond or giving lease of low-lying land close to their homes for fish fry farming.
Fish farming is allowing many of them to come out from the poverty.
Lutfur Rahman, a farmer of Sonahar village under Debiganj upazila, said he is farming fish fry in two acres of land for the last few years and became self-reliant.
Upazila Fisheries Officer of Debiganj upazila Hadiur Rahman told BSS that the fisheries department has trained the fish farmers and given by-cycles and pots for carrying fish fry to the market.
Beside, the government has given support easy loan facilities with low interest among the fish farmers helping eradicate poverty in the region,he added.
