A Russian ship carrying machineries for Rooppur nuclear power plant arrived at the Mongla deep sea port on Monday for the first time since beginning the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Russian flagged ship “MV Kamilla” anchored at jetty number 6 of Mongla port at 4:00pm.
On October 17, 2021, “MV Pescavalis” was the last Russian ship to arrive at Mongla port with 3700 tonnes of machineries for Rooppur plant before the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Earlier on June 28, the ship MV Kamilla left the Russian port of Tamaruk with 13 sailors on board and carrying 3328.237MT of machineries for Rooppur nuclear power plant.
HM Dulal, owner of Nuru and Sons,
a contractor for the product, said, “We will try to start clearing the products from the evening and send those to Rooppur as soon as possible.”
Chairman of Mongla Port Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa said, “the machineries of all the major projects in the country were imported from abroad. So according to the rules, these products come to Mongla Port. However, even though Russia has had a break for some times due to the Ukraine War, trade relations with Russia are good.”
He expected that goods will arrive regularly using Russian ships from now on.
