Chattogram Bureau :
For the first time, a large quantities of scrap came to the jetty built by a private enterprise on the south bank of river Karnafuli. The Panama-flagged MV Dina Ocean was docked at the Karnafuli Drydock jetty at 12:15 pm on Tuesday (March 30). The 154-meter-long, 8-and-a-half-meter draft ship arrived at the port on March 23 with 15,221 tonnes of BSRM Group scrap from Japan. Port Secretary.
Omar Farooq told that two private jetties have been constructed to the north of Bangladesh Marine Academy and to the left of Bandar Channel.
He said the unsightly shipping ship was brought to the jetty safely by the experienced pilots of the port from the outer anchorage as per the rules.
At this time Kandari 1 and Kandari 10 helped the ship. Container ships will also be able to be loaded at private jetties like GCB of the port.
Scrap unloading from the ship will begin soon under berth operator Ruhul Amin & Brothers, he said. BSRM Deputy Managing Director Tapan Sengupta told media that being a private jetty has created new opportunities for unloading goods along with the main jetty of the port.
He said this will reduce the waiting time of ships in the outer anchorage. This will save the demerge charge of the ship per day. Besides, it will be easier to provide raw material to the factory for uninterrupted production.
Meanwhile, port users say that a private jetty will reduce the pressure on Chittagong port and will open a new horizon for quick unloading of goods. There needs to be more such private jetties on the south bank of Karnafuli.
In this regard, Sikul Group MD Amirul Haque told “We congratulate the Ministry of Shipping for creating the opportunity to unload goods at the private jetty.” Hopefully this initiative will be further expanded.
