Newly-appointed Director General (DG)of Fire Service and Civil Defense Department Brigadier General Md Sazzad Hussain said , at the direct instruction of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , this Department is going ahead to face challenges and work on different projects are going on to make this organization modern and strong one .
He stated this while talking to The New Nation at his office on Sunday .
Sazzad Hussain said, work on 202 fire stations are progressing fast and 567 development projects will be completed by June 20 this year and necessary manpower and equipment like ambulance will be provided to work smoothly . The prime Minister has given directive to build fire station in each upazila headquarter and to add ambulance there , he added.
He further said, the capability of Fire Service and Civil Defense Department has increased a lot and the firemen now can reach up to 20th floor which was limited to 10th floor few years back .
He also said, at present ‘A’ category fire station has four vehicles and ‘B ‘category fire station has three vehicles to extinguish fire.
Newly -appointed DG also disclosed that a 50-bed hospital for the fire-burnt patients is going to be built at Mirpur in the city to treat the people who were burnt in fire .
To prevent the move of people during fire incident and protection of property , a new security battalion is underway and it will make different . In this regard, in a recent request to the nation the newly-appointed DG Md Sazzad Hussain said, our request to the nation will be, “Please do not crowd the scene of the hazard and let our firefighters and rescuers work without hindrance. It is the general public who have to come forward to ensure this. With your proper assistance we will be able to reduce the loss of both life and property.”
He stressed the need for creating awareness and said , every building including high-rise has to be equipped to face fire disaster and it is also responsibility for the building owners to save the buildings from the fire.
