A fire has gutted evidence of many cases and other stuffs kept on the ground floor police record room of Chittagong Court Building.
The fire broke out around 7:30pm on Monday near the stairs in the new building. The flames had spread to its second floor.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Jasim Uddin told that the flames were doused around 8:30pm.
He said they initially suspected the fire originated from a cigarette tam .
The open place, beside the records section where the stuff of the metropolitan court had been kept, was situated on the south-east side of the building’s ground floor.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Rezaul Masud told this reporter that they were yet to determine the source of the fire.
He said investigation would take place to find the motives behind the fire which broke out ahead of the verdict on the sensational 10-truck arms haul case.The verdict will be delivered on Jan 30. Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Moshiur Rahman and other top officials visited the spot after the incident.
