Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Brigadier General (rtd) Ali Ahmed Khan said on Thursday, fire service men are always ready for rendering highest sacrifice to the nation.
“The people of Bangladesh trust us very much. We save lives and assets of people risking our own lives. So the nation loves us,” Brigadier General (rtd) Ali Ahmed Khan said.
The DG said it while addressing a discussion meeting at the Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters in the city yesterday on the occasion of the International Fire Fighters Day on May 4.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Husen, Director, Planning, Development and Training, presided over the programme.
Additional Secretary of Home, Prodip Ranjan Chakrabarti, UNDP Deputy Country Director Muhammad Khorshed Alam and ILO Safety Specialist Morice Brucs, among others, delivered speech. The DG said, a total 10 fire fighters were killed and 19 more injured between 2011 and 2016 during professional duty.
“Our men are skilled and efficient. They are capable to meet any disaster like tornado, storm, fire incidents, floods and earthquake,” he said.
The DG said that volunteers across the country had been given training to cooperate with us.
He said, the department has given importance to creation of public awareness to prevent fire incidents and traffic accidents.
He condoled the death of those officials and employees, who sacrificed their lives in rescue drives in Bangladesh and across the globe.
The invited guests louded the role of the Fire Service and Civil Defense during man created or natural catastrophe. There is no doubt that the officers and employees are skilled and courageous, and risk life to douse inferno in industries and slums.
Since the area of the department has been expanded, demand was raised to increase convenience and allowance.
