Filmmakers urged to project violence against women

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki said the present government believes in empowerment of women.
Women are now becoming self-reliant in different levels in society because of various initiatives taken by the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, she said this on Friday while speaking at a function to inaugurate two-day “Second International Conference on Women in Films” at Alliance Francaise in the city.
She called upon the film makers to project violence against women to create awareness among the people.
Presided over by Dhaka University Professor Dr. Gitiara Nasrin, the function was also addressed by Irani film actress Fatemeh Motamed Arya and Turkish film critic Alin Tascian.
The conference on “Women in Film” is part of nine-day 14th Dhaka International Film Festival’. The festival began on Thursday and will continue till January 22. In the festival, 178 films from 58 countries, including Bangladesh will be screened.
The state minister said the present government has taken various initiatives to stop violence against women.
