Fierce gunfight among BCL rivals in Tangail

One shot dead, 2 bullet hit: Bhashani Varsity closed sine die

A student was shot dead and of the two others received bullet injuries in a fierce gun battle between two factions Bangladesh Chhatra League [BCL] at Maulana Bhashani University of Science and Technology (MBUST) in Tangail on Wednesday.
The dead, Abu Sadat Khaled Mosharraf, was a Masters student of CBA Department of the university.
The injured were identified as Faisal Ahmed, a second year student of Physics Department, and Badhan, a student of Bio-Technology and Genetic Engineering Department.
The Proctorial Body and law enforcing agencies rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Following the clash, the authorities of the university in an emergency meeting closed the university for an indefinite period and asked the students to leave the hall by 10am on Thursday [today].
Eyewitnesses said that the followers of Abu Sadat Khaled Mosharraf were locked in a quarrel with the supporters of Monir in the cafeteria at 2:45pm. They hurled abusive words at one other.
At one stage, they attacked each other equipped with firearms and lethal weapons that left one dead on the spot and two others injured. At least five cocktails were exploded during the deadly clash on the campus.
The injured students were sent to Tangail Medical College and Hospital and Dhaka Orthopaedic Hospital for better treatment.
Proctor of MBUST said that it was an unexpected incident. The authorities closed the university for indefinite period. A probe committee will be formed to investigate the incident. Extra law enforcing agencies have been deployed in and around the campus to avert any untoward incident, the proctor said.
