Field level officials should work for farmers betterment: Speakers

Discussants at a view-sharing meeting said the field level administrative and bank officials should work together for betterment of the farmers’ community.
They viewed boosting farming outputs could not be possible until the farmers interests are protected properly. For the sake of ensuring food security of the nation, there should be adequate measures of meeting up the farmers needs on priority basis.
The observation came at a coordination meeting between the administration of Rajshahi division and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) management held at Nanking Darbar Hall in Rajshahi city yesterday.
Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed addressed the discussion as chief guest while Additional Commissioner Haiul Quayum, RAKUB Managing Director Monzur Ahmed and Deputy Managing Director Dr Nazmul Bari spoke as special guests. Abdul Khaleque Khan, General Manager (Rajshahi division) of RAKUB, chaired the session.
Deputy Commissioners and RAKUB Zonal Managers from all eight districts and other high officials concerned were present at the meeting.
Speakers said the specialized bank should be committed to reach its services at the doorsteps of farmers for elevating their living and livelihood condition. Besides, it should work for bringing all the existing agricultural potential sectors and sub-sectors under qualitative and quantitative investments for making the region’s agro-based economy more vibrant.
RAKUB, headquartered in Rajshahi, has been operating its banking activities as the largest development partner in all 16 northwest districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions targeting its agricultural sector and all its sub-sectors.
The speakers recommended that the bank’s administrative and operational activities must be transparent and accountable alongside farmers-friendly for boosting agricultural production.
For the sake of sustainable livelihood development of the farmers and bolstering the agro-based economy, the meeting called for increasing the need-based credit flow.
The meeting discussed elaborately on ways to make the bank’s operational and commercial activities more dynamic through strengthening the credit support for both farm and non-farm field.
Terming the farmers as the vital force to boost up the agricultural productions they expressed their commitment to protect the farmers’ interests as a whole.
