FFs’ role in country’s glorious Independence lauded

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque lauded the role of freedom fighters’ in the country’s great liberation in 1971, saying their courageous acts had thwarted the heinous crimes of Pakistani forces and their allies. “The fearless heroic freedom fighters risked their lives to defeat them in a bloody nine-month war and snatched the independence of Bangladesh,” he said.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest at a rally organized on Wednesday on Kapilmuni Sahachari Vidyamandir School and College premises marking the historic ‘Mukto Dibosh’ of Kapilmuni, the top commercial place of South Bengal.
Mozammel Haque said the countrymen are now enjoying the benefits of the hard-earned independence.
He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered the historical speech on March 7 and in continuation of that the country was liberated and ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu will not be allowed to be lost in any way.
The allies of the defeated Pakistani forces are still in the country and they would rise up whenever they get a chance, he said, adding that for this, all pro-liberation forces have to be united to deal with the ill-forces.
He said the anti-liberation forces want to halt the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s groundbreaking development spree. There is no room for terrorism, militancy and extremism in this country, he added. He said they are liars who gave order for demolition of sculptures on the pretext of Islam. Talking about BNP, he said that BNP insulted the great independence by making the anti-independence Jamaat leaders Nizami and Mujahid ministers and hoisting flags on their cars. He said the country is marching towards a unique height of development by uprooting all the evil forces under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
The minister said that besides preserving the Kapilmuni battlefield, an integrated action plan will be adopted for the protection and development of the history and heritage of Kapilmuni established by the late Roy Saheb Binod Bihari Sadhu.
With Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Sadequr Rahman in the chair, the programme was conducted by Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Anand Mohan Biswas.
Akhtaruzzaman Babu, MP, also spoke on the occasion. Public Administration Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Paikgachha Upazila Chairman Anwar Iqbal Montu, Municipal Mayor Selim Jahangir, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ABM Khalid Hossain Siddiqui and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Muhammad Arafatul Alam were also present, among others, on the occasion.
Earlier, Mozammel placed a floral wreaths at the Kapilmuni Killing Ground (Baddhabhoomi) Memorial and inaugurated the construction work of the Liberation War Memorial Complex at Kapilmuni and inspected the historical building of Roy.
