Addressing the Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwarul Azim Arif of Chittagong University ( CU ) as a fake freedom fighter, a freedom fighters’ local organisation demanded his removal yesterday.
The demand and allegation came at a press conference held at the Press Club auditorium on Monday evening under the banner of Mukti Judda Odikar Songrokkon (freedom fighters’ right preservation) yesterdy.
However, addressing the organization as baseless one, the authorities of the varsity protested the allegation and put a counter allegation against a teacher, Gazi Saleh Uddin of Sociology Department, who managed to hold the press conference mentioning the allegation as propaganda against him.
The administration made the protest in a statement sent to the journalists yesterday, signed by Deputy Register (Information) Forhad Hossain. In the press conference, freedom fighter Mohammad Eddris alleged that Azim didn’t taken training during the liberation war adding that the VC appointed the BNP and Jamaat – backed teachers and officials by gripping black money.
Besides, he alleged that the VC appointed his relatives including his son Iftekar Arif and others as the part of the nepotism. He argued the prime minister to acquit the VC. In the counter allegation, the authorities said Dr Gazi Salah Uddin, teacher of the Sociology department, are conspiring against the authority as he failed to renew his employment which will be ended by next June.
