Few sections of new RTA need clarification: Asad

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that few sections of the new Road Transport Act (RTA) 2018 which was formally executed from this month need to be clarified.
Some of the nine sections of the Road Transport Act need to be simplified. Therefore, law enforcers have been asked to review those issues by June 30, 2020.
He made the remark at his residence following a meeting with Bangladesh Transport Workers Federation leaders on Saturday night.
While talking about the validity of a few of the federation’s demands regarding transport fitness and license, the Home Minister said the law enforcement will be lenient in that case.
However, he said parking in the middle of the street and causing traffic anomaly will not be tolerated.
Asaduzzaman asked the drivers to make their licenses up-to-date before June 30. He sought Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman and Road Transport and Bridges Minister’s co-operation in this regard.
He further said that fake license holders will be identified and not be spared.
On the fitness of vehicles, the Home Minister said, “Our vehicle owners have done modifications of the original model. A BRTA committee will be formed and decision will be taken based on their recommendation.”
Responding to queries on whether amendments will be made, Asaduzzaman said the suggestions will be forwarded to the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry where a decision will be taken in this regard.
The home minister-led taskforce on Sunday formed four sub-committees to prepare an action plan for curbing road accidents and bringing discipline in the transport sector. Each of the sub-committees will be led by secretaries and they will submit the report within two months.
Decision to form the fourth committee was taken at the first meeting of the taskforce designated for implementing 111 recommendations given by a committee headed by former minister Shahjahan Khan in April.
The four secretaries are from from Road Transport and Highways division, Information Ministry, Public Safety division and Local Government Division.
The taskforce was formed at the 27th meeting of National Road Safety Council (NRSC) on September 5 this year. The government issued gazette of the 33-member taskforce on October 15.
