A female police constable reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan of her room at a police barack in Pirbari area of the district headquarter on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Taslima Akhter,23, daughter of Rafiqul Islam, resident of Brahmanpara area in Cumilla.
Additional Police Super Iqbal Hossain said Taslima hanged herself around 12pm after her colleagues went to their respective duties.
Later, Taslima’s other colleagues spotted her hanging and rushed her to the District Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared her dead.
