One of the most successful athletes in the world, Allyson Felix, who is nearing the end of her illustrious career, was on Tuesday named to the US squad for the World Championships scheduled later this month. The athlete, who has 18 world championships medals to her name, failed to make the cut for the individual events but found a place in the mixed relay team. In the US Championships in June, she finished sixth in the 400 m sprint. USA Track and Field released their 151-person roster for the worlds on Tuesday.
The world championships run from July 15-24 in Eugene, Oregon.
Missing from the roster was Sha’Carri Richardson, who failed to qualify for the finals of either the 100 or 200m at the nationals. Richardson had won the women’s 100m at the Olympic trials in 2021 but was banned from the Games after testing positive for a substance found in marijuana.
Among those named to the women’s 4×100 relay pool was Gabby Thomas, last year’s 200m champion who has been dealing with a hamstring injury this season.
