The Raghua Kazirchar Government Primary School under Muladi upazila of Barishal district declared as closed for 48-hours in fear of snake bite after huge snakes found underground of the school floor.
Asaduzzaman Rakib, headmaster of the school, acknowledging the fact, said the present school building was constructed by filling a pond in 2009. Since last 2/3 years roaming of snakes became visible in two rooms on ground floor of the school. After taking steps to kill shoes and spreading carbolic acid movements of snakes became under control.
Recently floor of the room of class five and teachers seating became subsided or pressed down and cracked. From the holes of the cracked floors of those rooms matured and serpent snakes started to come out from Saturday. So in fear of snake bite presence of students and teachers became decreased since then and even after killing more than fifty snakes and serpents, the fear of snake bite did not removed, the headmaster of the school added.
Snake charmers calling from local areas and snake firm of Patuakhali were called and small size snakes, eggs of snakes were found, but big sized mother snakes yet not found. Presence of students and teachers also decreased in fear of snake bite, said Rafikul Islam, upazila primary education officer.
In this situation was created as the school remained closed for long time due to Ramadan and summer vacation and rainy season. Although it yet not sure whether the snakes found there were poisonous or not, but the school authourity asked to close the institution for at least 48 hours on Monday and Tuesday and taking steps to remove the fear of snake bite, the upazila primary education officer added.
Zakir Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer, said the cracked and pressed down floors of the school would be filled by sand, repaired or reconstructed soon. After removing possibilities and fear of snake bite from the minds of children and teachers, classes would be resumed there as soon as possible.
