Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Jashim Uddin on Thursday urged US companies to invest in the ICT sector of Bangladesh.
“The relationship between USA and Bangladesh will expand beyond the traditional areas and we should now explore growing prospects in frontier technologies, robotics and blockchain, space, bio-health, and others,” he said.
“USA should take the advantage of investing in Bangladesh, regional supply chains and its demographic dividend. Bangladesh could also benefit from America’s expertise in research and service innovation,” he added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the establishment of a dedicated economic zone for US companies, inviting the US entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh SEZ.
She said “at your request, Bangladesh would be happy to offer a dedicated ‘Special Economic Zone’ solely for US investors.”
The premier made this announcement at the US Bangladesh Business Council organised by US chamber of commerce on September 22. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting USA to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
PM invited US businessmen to invest in Bangladesh specially 100 ‘Special Economic Zones’ (SEZs), and the several Hi-tech Parks. With more than 600,000 freelancing IT professionals, Bangladesh is the right destination for IT investments. Moreover, availability of young, skilled workers at a competitive wage is an added advantage.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that Bangladesh is emerging as an ideal place for investment, industrialization and exports to diverse destinations in the region, and beyond.
