Farms harmed by Zoonotic ailment got over Tk 20 lakh reparation

Cattle farm owners who lost their cows or buffalos on account of zoonotic diseases got Tk 20 lakh and 80 thousand as compensation from the government.
It was the first time to give such compensations among the affected farm owners in the country.
The compensations have been paid under the project of ‘Strengthening veterinary public health service to protect human health’.
Compensation checks were distributed on Thursday among the farm owners in the conference room of the Department of Livestock, in the capital.
Afaz Uddin Mia, Director of the Department of Livestock presided over the programme, while Taufiqul Arif, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock was present at the Chief Guest.
Officials distributed checks amount among 27 cattle farms owners.
Officials said, they will make payment of compensations to the affected farmers in 201 upzilas one after another.
Dr. Md. Azizul Islam, Project Director of ‘Strengthening Veterinary Public Health Service to protect human health’, Debasis Das, Department of Livestock, Dr. Md. Aiyub Mian, Livestock Officer of Laxmipur district and Dr. Md. Faruk, Bandar Upazila Livestock Officer, among others, were present in the programme.
Besides, Sabdul Khan and Abul Hashim, spice with the cattle farm owners.
Abul Hashim became emotional getting Tk 80,000 as compensation for his death cow.
He said that the cow was his lone wealth, but it died from zoonotic disease.
He thanked the government for stand beside the harmed farmers.
Dr. Md. Azizul Islam said, the government has taken the project to enrich Livestock Sector and cattle farms in the country.
He said, under the project, Tk 80,000 is to be given for death of cow and buffalos and Tk 40,000 will be given for death calves from four zoonotic diseases-bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis, anthrax and rabies.
He said that the project passes through 28 district’s 201 upazilas.
The cattle farmers will get the facilities till June 2023, he added.
The Director said also that the capabilities of laboratories of the veterinary public health were increasing constantly to protect domestic animals health.
