Farmers urged to cultivate maize on more acreage in Barind

Agricultural extension officials at a discussion on Friday urged the farmers to bring more lands under maize cultivation for uplifting their socio-economic condition as the cash crop farming more risk-free than any other crops.
They termed the maize as eco-friendly and urged the growers to be habituated with using high-yielding varieties and modern technologies so that they can derive total benefits of those in terms of getting more profit from the farming.
They were addressing a farmers’ field day to mark the visiting of a demonstration plot of a high yielding maize variety at Talanda Girls High School playground under Tanore Upazila in the district on Friday.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organized the programme where more than 100 farmers both male and female attended.
Omor Faruque Chowdhury, MP, and Additional Deputy Director of DAE Mustafizur Rahman addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shawkat Ali in the chair.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Saiful Islam, Upazila Vice-chairman Bondona Rani Pramanik and school teachers Abdur Razzaque, Saleha Begum and Mollah Billal Baqui also spoke.
