Farmers of Joypurhat district are producing export quality potato in this season and desire to make Tk 300 cr this season by exporting quality potato across the area. For which, they are being able to change the economic condition rapidly.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source said, the farmers of the Pachbibi, Akkelpur, Khetlal, Kalai and Sadar upazilas have brought over 41000 hectares of land under potato cultivation to produce 0.8 million tonne in this current season.
To keep this huge amount of the crops, a total six cold storage were established across the district few years back but now a total 17 cold storage are running to keep 0.8 million tonnes mitigate the demand of the farmers from last year. The farmers of the upazilas are seen raconteur for making big money exporting the crop to the foreign country.
While visiting the correspondent found that the root level farmers of the different village rearing the potato cropland aiming bumper production from very early morning to late at night. They are somehow worried due to dense fog across the area from last week. Besides, they are to count extra money from getting rid of pest attack in all the area.
Farmer Shimul Islam of Madhupukur village under Khetlal upazila said, he has brought twoe acre of land under potato cultivation in this season spending tk over 16000 and he is expecting tk 40000 will be profit from the potato filed if the price remain satisfactory till March. He will bring the more crop land under potato cultivation next year if he gets a good profit from the potato field in this season, he added.
“I had made a total tk 0.4 million from my ten bighas of potato field in the last year as the price was satisfactory,” said farmer Belal Hossain , 45, at Kholiswary village under Akkelpur upazila.
