Vegetable farming in Jhenaidah: Farmers happy with better yield, consumers with reasonable prices

The farmers are happy with better yield of the vegetables, while the consumers with the reasonable prices in the current winter season in Jhenaidah.
The production have satisfied when the farmers were receiving more prices, and, the consumers with least prices due to price fall in the market, expressed both the farmers and the consumers.
The situation came before the farmers and producers when the climate was more favourite during the farming season, as well as necessary rainfall in the middle of the last year, they said.
The farmers in six upazilas of the district had brought a total of 11 thousand hectares of land under vegetable farming in current season.
Farmer Badar Uddin of village Gobindapur under Sailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah said, he had cultivated cabbage on two bighas of land and coliflower on another two bighas in the season. From the plots he had harvested the same for about Taka 65 thousand and expecting more 60 thousand from the same plot.
Another farmer Abul Hossain of Kamarkuhdu village in Jhenadah Sadar upazila said, he had harvested Taka 35 thousand from his one bigha plot for egg plants in the season Another Taka 30 thousand was expected from the plot in the season.
The farmers like them were very impressed when the yield and price was almost optimum in the season they said.
Liakat Hossain a government employee and Shabana Yesmin, a primary school teacher when asked at Jhenaidah kitchen market on Monday morning said, they have purchased cabbage at Taka 10 a piece of one and a half kilogram weight, while each kilogram of coliflower at taka 20. The price was almost double two weeks back.
The consumers said, the price of potato fallen to Taka 20 as against taka 35 and brinzal at Taka 20 as against taka 30 only two weeks back.
