Farmers happy over maize yield at Gafargaon

The farmers of Gafargaon are cultivating maize corn with the help of the Department of Agricultural Extension Gafargaon. Especially in the Tangab Union of the upazila, maize is the most popular farming cultivated there.
Now maize cultivation has become popular in lieu of rice cultivation in gafargoan. This successful evolution of agriculture has made remarkable contributions to the livelihood of the farmers. In this season, about 150 hectares land is under maize cultivation in Gafargaon.
According to the Upazila Agricultural Officer’s Office, maize cultivation has gained popularity for several years in different places of upazila. During the 2020-21 season, the green corn fields of maize have made the farmers of Dattarazar, Dakshab, Datter Bazar and Tangab union of the upazila happy. The Department of Agriculture is hoping that 1800 metric tons of maize will be produced in the upazila. Farmers are hoping for the yield of a bumper yield than last year. Being profitable than rice, wheat, potato, it has become popular in this upazila. Bamankhali village’s corn farmer Mokhlesur Rahman said that he has cultivated maize in 33 percent of his land. Seeing the situation he hopes bumper yield.
He said, 7 percent of the land spent 15 to 16 to 16 people to cultivate rice. There were 6 to 7 years of cultivation in the same amount of land. At least 6 minds of 7 percent are produced in maize. Every 7 percent cost is available to 34 to 35%. 33 percent of the farmers of the same village, Rafiqul Islam, 33 percent and Sirajul Islam also cultivated maize on 33 percent of the land. These farmers hope bumper yield.
As a result of cultivation of corn, the economic development of the region and life journey started to change the quality of life. Farmer Sirajul Islam said, if there is no natural disaster, then 30 percent of the land from 30 percent to 26 mounds can be built in corn. He said that officials of agricultural department always encourage other farmers. Farmer Josa Begum of Bamangkhali village said that she cultivated a population in 33 percent of the land.
Her plot was an exhibited in 33 percent of the maize land by Department of Agriculture. The agricultural department gave necessary seeds and chemical fertilizers at no cost. Out of the exhibition plot, she has cultivated maize in several lands.
