Farmers of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) are expecting a bumper production of pineapple this year due to favorable weather and availability of agro-inputs in proper time.
Source of Rangamati regional office, under Directorate of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said farmers cultivated about 6,000 hectares of land in three CHT districts with a production target of two lakh tones.
Growers cultivated pineapple on 1,772 hectares of land in Rangamati, 745 hectares of land in Khagrachhari and 3,225 hectares of land in Bandarban.
Farmers of the district are keen to continue cultivation of pineapple on their land, sources said. A large quantity of pineapple is being exported to European countries ever year, they said.
