BSS, Gaibandha :
Farmers of Gaibandha district are expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy in the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has brought a total of 124,179 hectares of land of all the 7 upazilas of the district under boro cultivation with the production target 501,039 tonnes of rice this year.
Favorable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seed of BADC and BMDA and electricity supply, fertilizers and other agri- inputs to the growers are the main reasons behind the bumper production, DAE sources said.
To make the cultivation programme a success, all arable lands have been brought under this programme. The commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank disbursed soft loan to the poor and the marginal farmers for Boro cultivation.
While visiting some areas of the district this correspondent found that the early variety of Boro paddy including BIRI-28 has started to ripe.
