Many Boro farmers, including hundreds of irrigation pump owners, have become frustrated because the current season due to lack of power connection at Jhenaigati Upazila in Sherpur district.
At the beginning of the Boro season this year, about two hundred deep tube-wells (irrigation pump) owners from the upazila applied for electricity connection in BADC but till now the farmers did not get permission for power connections.
But the time is right for boro cultivation. But due to lack of power connections, the irrigation pump can not be started and irrigation can not be given to the farmers. To get the power connection of the deep tube well, then the approval of BADC and then Upazila Irrigation Committee Chairman Upazila Nirbahi Officer is required.
The owner of irrigation pump owner Abul Mia from Nachan Mahuri village of Jhenaigati upazila, Moti Mia of Kalinagar area, Farid Ali, Anwar village of Panabar, Mojaffar, Idris Ali of Kangsha village, Abdul Majid of Nalkura union, Abdul Kashem and several other irrigation pump owners said, They had already received the request for connection from the Upazila chairman. But after being removed from the post of Upazila chairman irrigation committee, they have to get fresh permission from the chairman of the current Irrigation Committee Upazila Nirbahi Officer. As a result, two months ago, they applied for BADC. After approval of the BADC report, it has been approved after submitting the report to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer. But they have not received the permission even after the last two months have passed. As a result, hundreds of peasant families, including hundreds of deep tube well owners of the applicant, are mourning and disappointment in the sad.
Officer-In-charge of BADC Jhenaigati Upazila, Obaidul Haque said that due to the election, there has been some interruption in the work. However, the applications have been submitted to Upazila Nirbahi Officer along with the report. The clearance will be given within a week. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rubel Mahmud said the applications are in the engineering department of BADC. I have not yet arrived. I would really like to take immediate necessary action.
