Already they have cultivated summer vegetables of different kinds on a total of 170,81 hectares, including 5725 in Sylhet, 3848 hectares in Moulvibazar, 4980 hectares in Habiganj and 2528 hectares in the district of Sunamganj, an official in DAE informed.
Besides, chilli has been cultivated on 387 hectares, ginger on 494 hectares, termaric on 754 hectares, groundnut on 78 hectares, till on 265 hectares, mung bean on 117 hectares and sugarcane on 519 hectares and totalling the area at 2614 hectares, the source added.
However, things would continue for few days more and the said crops’ farming area would raise further, the official added, but no target was set by the DAE centrally for the season this year, informed the Deputy Director of the DAE’s Sylhet Divisional office Dr Mamun Ur Rashid.
Although much of the croplands were inundated by the recent incessant rains in some areas, the farmers managed fresh farming while some of the crops including some vegetables need wetlands for a better yield, the official added.
