Farmer killed in clash over paddy sharing in Sylhet

A farmer, injured in a clash over paddy sharing in Sylhet’s Companiganj, died on Thursday morning.
Harun Mia was being treated at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for stab wounds in his chest, back and head. He is the son of Siraj Mia of Putmara village in the upazila.
Police said the skirmish took place on Wednesday afternoon at Putmara village.
Locals and police said Harun’s sister-in-law had paid Tk 10,000 their neighbour Nur Uddin in advance for Baishakh paddy about six months ago. An altercation took place when Harun’s sister-in-law went to Nur’s house to receive the paddy.
This led to a clash between supporters of Nur and Harun. At least 20 people were injured.
Companiganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge KM Nazrul Islam said they arrested one Ain Uddin, 32, for his suspected involvement in the clash. A case was being filed by the victim’s family.
