Farewell, Mr. President Justice Shahabuddin was a man of our golden age, says CJ

Amid respect and love, people from all walks of life on Sunday bade farewell to former President and Chief Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed.
The former Chief Justice was laid to rest in Dhaka’s Banani graveyard around 12:15 pm, said Md Saifur Rahman, Spokesperson of the Supreme Court.
Earlier, his body was kept at National Eidgah Field on the Supreme Court premises for around one hour from 10.00 am when SC judges, former judges, lawyers, law officers, political leaders and Justice Shahabuddin’s family members paid their last tributes to him. After his second namaz-e-janaza on National Eidgah field, Shahabuddin’s body was taken to Banani Graveyard for his burial.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, former chief justices Syed Mahmud Hossain and Md Muzammel Hossain, judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC, lawyers of the SC, acting Attorney General SM Munir, few deputy attorney generals, and government and SC officials attended the janaza.
They paid tribute to Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, placing wreaths on his coffin.
On behalf of President Md Abdul Hamid, his Assistant Military Secretary Brigadier General Raju Ahmed paid respects to the former President. Later Supreme Court judges including Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddiquie and other political and social organizations paid their last tributes to former Chief Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed.
Before starting the second namaz-e-janaza on National Eidgah field, Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique said that Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed was a shining star in the Bangladesh judiciary.
The Chief Justice also said, “Sahabuddin Ahmed is one of the few judges of our golden age. Many of them have already died. Today we are saying goodbye to him.”
Justice Siddique further said, “Sahabuddin Ahmed will remain alive among us through his verdicts delivered in the court. This nation especially our judiciary will remember him for his contribution in the eighth amendment case and other cases. Justice seeking people will get benefit of these verdicts even after 100 years.”
Sahabuddin Ahmed’s son Sohel Ahmed said, “Looking at his personal life, it seems that he was a judge by heart and soul. He treated everyone equally.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice has suspended all judicial functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions for Sunday in honour of Justice Shahabuddin.
