The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) observed its 13th founding anniversary on Tuesday across the country with a call to raise mass awareness against corruption and to build an investment friendly economy to reduce money laundering.
The call came from a seminar titled ‘With Cooperation of all, we will build Bangladesh’ marking the 13th founding anniversary at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the city.
ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood presided at the programme and retired Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Mohammed Farashuddin was the chief guest while ACC Secretary Dr Md Shamsul Arefin, ACC Director General (Prevention) Dr Md Jafar Iqbal, its Commissioner Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam also spoke on the programme.
Dr Mohammed Farashuddin said development and corruption go simultaneously in our country. For reducing money laundering from the country, a framework of anti-corruption is required as well as investment friendly economy needed to reduce money laundering from the country.
“Only law enforcement cannot reduce corruption. We need to develop mass awareness and patriotism to end such malpractice for the country,” Dr Mohammed Farashuddin added.
“The ACC should destroy the root of corruption by reviewing its style at source. It should eliminate the corruption by hunting big shots to make our socio-economic development sustainable,” he mentioned.
Iqbal Mahmood said, The ACC has to increase the quality of investigation and according to law we have to prove evidences to the court to make penalties effective. The confidence of the people has been increasing on us due to multi-dimensional measures to curb corruption.
“We are emphasizing on prevention of corruption, rather curing it. We admit that big corrupted heads are still to be hunted, besides ensuring transparency and accountabilities of the commission’s officials and take tough action against corruption in the coming days. We must make the commission effective, reliable and neutral through it activities,” Iqbal Mahmood mentioned.
