Family Planning Department, NGO’s including Kishoreganj District Administration jointly arranged a colourful rally, discussion and certificate distribution among the field level workers marking the World Population day on Wednesday.
The theme of the day “Family Planning is a Human Rights-aims at providing safe, voluntary family planning.”
A discussion meeting was held at local collectorate conference room on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury attended as chief guest while Deputy Director of Family Planning Abu Taha Md. Enamur Rahman in the chair.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman, ADC (General) & D.S Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil and Additional S.P Shafiqul Islam were attended as special guest.
It was addressed among others by Sadar Upazial Chairman Advocate Shariful Islam, Dr. Halima Akhter, Dr. Hosneara, Community Medical Officer Dr. Khalilur Rahman, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito and District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal.
Deputy Commissioner Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury said that the government is committed to a new sustainable development agenda built on the principles of euqity and human rights. To achive the target, adolescent health care is essential.
Family Planning DD Enamur Rahman called upon all concerned to create awareness of the adolescent health and child marriage.
Later, a colourfull rally was brought out in the town led by DC Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury and D.D Family Planning Enamur Rahman on Wednesday morning.
BSS from Rangpur says: Health experts at a post-rally discussion here today said Bangladesh has achieved laudable success in containing population growth through popularising family planning programmes.
They came up with the view in the discussion organised by the Department of Family Planning (DFP) to observe the World Population Day- 2018 with the theme of ‘Family Planning is a Human Right.’
The DFP jointly with the district health administration, Plan International, Surjer Hanshi Clinic, LAMB Hospital, United Nationals Family Planning Association and other organisations chalked out programmes to observe the day.
The programmes included rally, discussion and distribution of prizes among best family planning assistants, female family planning visitors and different organisations for their extraordinary contributions to the population control programme.
Hundreds of people, including officials, executives and employees of government departments and NGOs, professionals, educationists, students and civil society members participated in the rally.
Divisional Director (Local Government) Zakir Hossain attended the discussion held at conference room of the Civil Surgeon as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the DFP Dr Md Saidul Islam in the chair. Divisional Director (Health) Dr Mostafizur Rahman and Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam addressed the occasion as special guests.
The chief guest called for encouraging all able couples in adopting short and long-term as well as permanent methods of family planning and popularise the message of ‘not more than two children, but one is better’.
Dr Islam narrated the massive programmes being implemented by the government to provide advanced education on family planning issues to the able couples and common people to make them aware of containing population growth. The Civil Surgeon stressed on ensuring health education for adolescents, preventing adolescent pregnancy and child marriage to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in attaining the sustainable development goals.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: Experts observed here that collective effort has become an urgent need to bring all the fertile couples under family planning services for the sake of happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
They also urged to create public awareness about aspects of planned family for freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger besides to attain economic emancipation.
Divisional and district offices of the Department of Family Planning organised the discussion in the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute on Wednesday in observance of the World Population Day-2018. ‘Family Planning is a Human Right’ was the main theme of the day.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Divisional Director of Health Dr Anisur Rahman addressed the meeting as the chief and special guests respectively with divisional director of the Department of Family Planning Shafiqul Islam in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjit Kumar Shaha, Upazila Chairman Jakirul Islam and Union Parishad Chairman Bijon Kumar Sarker also spoke. In her welcome speech, deputy director of the department Dr Nasim Akhter gave an overview of the district level family planning activities and achievements.
The speakers laid emphasis on bringing all the fertile couples under the campaign programme through reaching the family planning message to them especially those who live in remote and underprivileged areas.
Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities, the discussants underlined the need for giving top priority to motivating the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy using contraceptives.
“If we can control the unexpected pregnancies in the greater perspective, country’s population could be reduced to a tolerable rate easily,” said Nur- Ur-Rahman adding the field level workers should be more careful and attentive to performing their respective duties.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: The World Population Day was observed in the district on Wednesday as elsewhere in the country and the globe with a call to develop the nations regarding family planning and empowering the people.

Marking the day, the department of family planning (DFP) chalked out elaborate programmes in cooperation with district administration. In the morning, a colorful rally was brought out from Independence Square and ended in front of Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) after parading the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of ZSA with deputy director (DD) of DFP Deowan Morshed Kamal in the chair while medical officer Dr. Sayeeda Tasnim Ridi was the moderator.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman addressed the meeting as the chief guest and civil surgeon Dr. Abdus Shakur, additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present at the event as the special guests..
