Families of 49 expatriate workers get compensation

The government has distributed Taka 1,60,35,899 as compensation among the family members of 49 expatriate workers of Chittagong who were killed in different countries.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B.Sc distributed the cheques on Saturday at a meeting at Chittagong Circuit House.
Every family of the deceased expatriate workers received around Taka 3 lakh each.
Distributing the money the minister said, “The ministry would have to distribute financial assistance, financial grant and compensation among the family members of deceased overseas workers within two months.”
He promised to provide an ambulance for the expatriate welfare desk of the Shah Amanat International Airport to transport overseas workers’ body.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner of the district Mejbah Uddin, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary M Iftekhar Haider, victim’s family and officials concerned.
At the beginning of the meeting, prayers were offered for the peace of the departed souls of overseas workers who died in Oman, Dubai, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
