BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday threatened to withdraw from the polls as he found that there is no election atmosphere in the country.
 “There is no friendly election atmosphere in the country. If the government fails to create an atmosphere for election, then the BNP will be compelled to reconsider our decision of joining the polls,” BNP Secretary General said it while starting the nomination papers sale.
He said, “Participation in the election is part of our movement strategy. We will free our party chief Begum Khaleda Zia through united movement.”
The BNP on Monday formally started selling its nomination forms from its Nayapaltan central office to the aspirant candidates of the next Parliamentary polls. Huge crowd were seen around the party’s Nayapaltan office as hundreds of aspirant candidates and their supporters rushed there to collect forms.
The party men chanted slogans demanding the party chief Khaleda Zia’s immediate release from jail.
The sale of nomination papers began at 10:45am with the purchase of three nomination papers for the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir purchased a nomination form for Khaleda Zia to contest the polls from Feni-1.
Then the party’s Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas and Nazrul Islam Khan collected two papers for her to contest from Bogura-6 and 7 Constituencies.
Mirza Fakhrul himself collected the nomination form of Thakurgaon-1 Constituency.
Singer Monir Khan collected BNP’s nomination papers for Jhenaidah-3, Singer Baby Nazneen collected the form for Nilphamari-4 and Singer Rumana Morshed Kanakchampa collected the form for Sirajgonj-1.
Besides, Actor Helal Khan collected BNP’s form for Sylhet-6 and Actress Shayla bought the form for Faridpur-4 Constituency.
The BNP sold its nomination papers till 8pm though the schedule time was 4pm.
The party decided to increase the time due to huge pressures from the aspirants.
The party sources said that it had sold around 1326 nomination papers on the first day.
The aspirants can collect the nomination papers from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Tuesday at Tk 5,000 each.
Each nomination hopeful can submit the nomination paper either on Wednesday between 10:00am and 4:00pm and the same time on Thursday with Tk 25,000 as non-refundable deposit.
