Court Correspondent :
The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (Tuesday) granted three months’ bail to BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three sabotage cases filed with Paltan Police Station of the city.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the order in response to an appeal seeking permanent bail to the BNP leader.
Fakhrul’s lawyers Barrister Rafiq-ul-Haque, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Joynul Abedin moved the bail petitions, while Additional Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir represented the prosecution. Earlier, the Appellate Division asked the High Court Division to dispose the rule within two weeks.
Police filed the cases during the hartal (Shutdown) and blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance in January of this year.
Meanwhile, BNP Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi’s lawyer Advocate Zahurul Haque Sumon told newsmen on Tuesday that his client Rizvi had been allowed bail in all 21 cases filed against him and that has removed all obstacles against his release from the jail.
