The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka yesterday granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and seven others in an arson attack case filed in October, 2018.
Seven other BNP leaders are: Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr Moyeen Khan, Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu and Nazrul Islam Khan.

Earlier, they surrendered in the court seeking bail, while Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansary granted them bail on grounds that they will
have to appear before the court on every scheduled date. The case was filed on October 1 last year with Hatirjheel Police Station against Mirza Fakhrul and 55 others. On submission of police report a month back, the High Court Division granted them anticipatory bail and directed them to appear before the Metropolitan Sessions Judges’ Court of Dhaka.
But, the state challenged the order with the Supreme Court Division of the Supreme Court. The apex court on last August 18 directed Fakhrul and seven others to appear in the concerned court.
The Supreme Court also directed the concerned court to dispose of the bail petitions in accordance with the law.
