Police sent a man to jail for introducing himself as a member of Rapid Action Battalion, but failed to prove his identification on Monday.
The accused was identified as Monir Hossain, 26, son of Shamsul Huq from Bikrampur of Munshiganj and living in a rented house at Saw Road area of Barisal city.
Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, officer in charge of Kawnia police station under Barisal Metropolitan City, said Monir identifying himself as a RAB member tried to harass and blackmail a shopkeeper at Mia Barir Pol area under Aicha village of Shayestabad on early Monday.
Local people while challenging his identification asked to show his identity card, Monir engaged in altercation with them.
Then Monir was handed over to Kawnia police station and police after verifying found identification of Monir was fake and he cheating people as RAB member since long days.
Sub Inspector Sujit Kumar Gomosta as complainant lodged a case against Monir with this police station and sent him to court.
Nusrat Jahan, magistrate of Barisal metropolitan magistrate court, rejecting bail prayer sent the accused to jail on Monday afternoon.
